Wounds or Ulcers and Varicose Veins

When will I develop a wound or ulcer when I have varicose veins?

The statistics show that men are at a higher risk of developing ulcers or wounds than women. This could be for many reasons including the fact women may often address the skin changes and bulging varicose veins a lot earlier than men. Being a man I can attest that we tend to wait till things are bad before seeking treatment.

The take home message is this, if you have noticed skin changes specifically discolouration or darkening of the skin or if the skin is becoming thicker and hard, or even has bled before after hitting it. These are signs your vein condition is progressively worsening and you want to treat it before a wound or ulcer develops.

Ulcers can leave scars and often take time to heal despite treating underlying venous disease.
