Prevention versus treatment for varicose veins

This question comes up a lot and it is more about, what can I do to prevent varicose veins from appearing or worsening.

Unfortunately, prevention does not really work for varicose veins. I know because I have spent hours trying to find this solution.

The challenge is that the start of these veins may even begin as early as 6 to 8 years of age. At this time it will not be evident on the legs, but as the children then get in to their teens and later early adult hood, the veins may then show up on their legs.

This could account for many individuals that have been blessed with genetics predisposing them to varicose veins. Obviously there are other causes like pregnancy and being overweight.

To avoid sounding gloomy and doomy, if thats a word.

General measures can help to strengthen your vein wall and vein health.

It is going to sound boring but here goes:

  1. Exercise regularly and keep your weight under control – Putting on weight quickly and losing it quickly can all be factors
  2. Eat a healthy diet with lots of colours in them. Blueberries, blackberries, chia seeds, avocados, celery and I could go on. Notice I have not mentioned pizzas and beer. Unfortunately they do not pass the pub test for healthy diet, but with moderation like anything is acceptable.
