Night Cramps and Varicose Veins

Night cramps are often associated with restless leg syndrome, whereby there is a dragging or pulling sensation in the legs especially at night.

Unfortunately they are actually a different condition all together even though they may share some similarities.

Pain is an important feature with night cramps that is not present in restless leg syndrome.

Some of the causes include:

  • Diabetes

  • Kidney Disease

  • Venous disease and varicose veins

  • Pregnancy

  • Thyroid conditions

  • Medications

  • Muscle fatigue

  • Dehydration

Varicose veins are commonly associated with night cramps that are annoying and affect quality of life.
