My sister has varicose veins will I get it too

Genetics play a major role in the development of varicose veins but it does not necessarily mean everyone will get it. It is not uncommon to find one or two siblings in the family having varicose veins and the others completely free of it.

This essentially means that the gene inherited for weakened or abnormal veins is missed in these other siblings.

This could not be more obvious when I see twins or even triplets and only 1 out of the 3 have varicose veins and the others do not, despite having a strong family history.

There are other factors like body size and number of pregnancies that may predispose to the development of varicose veins.

But, by-enlarge when you compare siblings with similar attributes you will find that the gene must be missing in some.
