Knee Pain and Varicose Veins

Varicose veins can present with pain in the area that you see them.

Sometimes they actually wrap around your knees either on each side or on top of the knee.

This can cause pain or discomfort especially when you have been on your feet for a long time or when it is hot.

There are some patients who actually get pain within their knees rather than from the varicose veins itself.

The easiest way to tell the difference:

  • Pain from your varicose veins is worse where they are seen or even felt on that part of body
  • Pain from veins is worse at the end of the day although it may be there always if it is more advanced
  • Knee pain is worse with certain movements
  • Sometimes clicking or catching is felt in the knee signifying it is probably more a knee issue
  • Occasionally you may have knee pain but it is actually being referred from your hip.

This means the underlying issue is in your hip but you feel it in your knees
